Food For Budgies

How can I get my budgies to eat fresh food?
I’m getting budgies again in a couple days, and years ago when I had them for the first time, I couldn’t get them to eat anything fresh, except a tiny bit of parsley sometimes. I want my new parakeets to live healthier then that, but I don’t know how to get them to actually eat what I set in front of them.
Also, other than avocado and chocolate, is there anything else they’re allergic to?
Definitely easier if you get the youngest birds (safely) possible…I’ve owned a variety of species over the years and tastes vary…My budgies love green peas, corn, kale, and mustard greens…I wouldn’t offer them anything at all with a pit… When starting mine out on fruits/veggies I find clothespinning greens to a toy gets their attention pretty well,& it makes trying it more of a game! If serving in a crock/feeder you may wish to avoid the color red as a choice for the feeder,it seems quite a few birds have an aversion to the color. You can also buy dried items such as beans, lentils, etc, boil them until tender,& serve to them drained and cooled,a LOT of my birds have liked this,I use it a lot in weaning as well…Be patient, the older the bird,if it hasn’t been introduced to such foods before, the longer it may take to get them started.. I’d also be hesitant to let the bird eat something if your mouth has touched it,as the bacteria in saliva can be harmful, good luck!
